ProJo announces Fitzpatrick move to staff

A day after we broke the news, here's the internal memo:

Ed has 20 years of experience as a reporter and editor at daily newspapers, including the past eight years at the Journal.

He has been a member of the Journal State House bureau and has covered elections for local, state and federal offices. Most recently, he has covered the state and federal courts in Rhode Island. Before coming to the Journal, Ed was a reporter at the Hartford Courant and the Albany Times Union. He was the city editor at The Saratogian in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and began his career as a City Hall reporter at the Daily Gazette in Schenectady, N.Y., and the Post-Star in Glens Falls, N.Y.

Ed graduated from Syracuse University in 1988 with a dual degree in political science and magazine journalism. He graduated from Mount St. Charles Academy in 1984. He was born in Providence and grew up in Greenville, where he was a paper carrier for the Evening Bulletin.

He and his wife, Ellen Foley, live in Providence and have two sons, Ned and Jake.

Ed will write three times a week, on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. His first column will appear on Sunday, Nov. 2. We’ll carry a story in the Sunday Journal.
