    With the new Mission of Burma album in the can, drummer Peter Prescott and fourth member/ tape manipulator/sound engineer Bob Weston are reuniting their other art-punk band, VOLCANO SUNS, for a December 29 show at the Middle East.

    How OTD nearly wrecked a perfectly good iPod DJ night

    It's said that DJs have a sixth sense that allows them to read a room: to discern -- by osmosis or tell-tale visual clues or smell or whatever -- which records will make a particular audience turn inside out on the dance floor.

    OTD, apparently, does not possess this sense.

    This became painfully apparent last Friday, when OTD damn near wrecked a perfectly good iPod DJ night at Bill's Bar

    I went to see Milton Nascimento last night (a hilarious and fun evening in Medford, Brazil -- you'll get my review shortly); and there were flyers for another landmark Brazilian artist coming to town: Joyce, one of the best Brazilian singer/songwriters, is making her Boston debut (so far as I know) via Fenton Hollander's Water Music jazz shows at the Cambridge Multicultural Center, November 17.

    As if there was any doubt, the single most polarizing single of 2005 is officially "My Humps." Personally, OTD thinks the song is vile, tasteless, and utterly irresistable. We love it. But then we've long since reconciled the notion of adoring music, and art, that we don't agree with. Which leads us to the conclusion that how you fall on this song is probably gonna say quite a bit about how you view music in the early 21st century.

    Before emo kids and Hot Topic discovered goth metal, it sounded a lot less like AFI and a lot more like Samhain. Which is something you don't have to tell New Bedford warhorses the HIDDEN. Their old band Medea Connection drew up weirder sci-fi plots than Coheed and Cambria, their new riffs will knock Alkaline Trio's teeth down their throats, and their singer does the best Danzig impersonation this side of Type O Negative.
