CVS prescriptions in Google Health accounts

The Woonsocket, R.I.-based CVS Caremark Company announced today that pharmacy, MinuteClinic, and CVS Caremark plan customers can all download their prescriptions and their medication history into Google Health accounts now. So if you are a CVS pharmacy patron and want to see what you're taking, what you have taken, relive your past diseases, you can do so by syncing your CVS pharmacy's computer to your Google Health account.

Why would you do this? Because in Google's opinion, having one digitized Web site containing all your medical history is more convenient and safer than keeping hard copies inside your home or at your doctor's office.

How do you do this? Go to your CVS.com and sign up for the Prescription Management feature. You will be prompted what to do after that, the press release said. CVS customers can also order refills online here, pickup locations and request prescription renewals. Authentication is needed before CVS.com will share the data with Google Health.

For someone who moves around a lot, this is a God send. For someone still a little skeptical of putting all my information, especially something this personal, online, this is sketchy. If the IRS can lose tapes with your social security number, I'd hate to see what happens when someone finds a way to crack into Google Health. But if they can put a total lockdown on this site, it will be one of the best things to happen to medicine management in a long time, in my opinion anyway.
