The Master Blaster returns: Charles Daniels' rock photos at Nave Gallery

SLIDESHOW: From Rod Stewart to DJ Axel Foley: A selection of the photography of Charles Daniels

One night the MC5 showed up at the old Boston Tea Party, the legendary concert venue that hosted, among others, the Who, the Velvet Underground, Led Zeppelin, and pretty much every major band of the era. On this particular night, the MC5 showed up in the company of a radical NYC group called the East Side Motherfuckers, who were prepared to incite a riot. The man who saved the Tea Party that night -- and enlivened it on many, many more nights -- was Charles Daniels, better known as the Master Blaster. He was the Tea Party's emcee, and he also came strapped . . . with a camera. An exhibit of his photos from that era -- as well as photos and video spanning four decades of rock history -- are on display through the weekend at the Nave Gallery in Somerville. There's a closing resception on Sunday from 2-5 pm. For a taste of what's on tap. here to see a slideshow of selections from the exhibit. As for what happened with the East Side Motherfuckers, you'll have to ask Charlie about that -- or download this video where he tells the story:
