PODCAST: Q&A with Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) [MP3]

As you've no doubt noticed from last week's Oscar announcements, The Hurt Locker's blown up in a big way since its initial release last summer, reaping honors for best director, cinematography, and editing, all on top of best film of the '09. And, according to its Academy Award-nominated star, Jeremy Renner, Kathryn Bigelow's accolade-stealing indie pic owes a great deal of its buzz to the praise of reviewers nationwide, including our own Boston Society of Film Critics.

As the guest of honor and winner of Best Actor at the BSFC's annual awards gala (which you can read all about in the Phoenix this week), Renner dropped by the ceremony at the Brattle last week to pick up his award and take part in a rollicking Q&A.

In this podcast, Renner navigates a mine field of questions surrounding, but not limited to, The Hurt Locker's grueling shoot, the military's reception of the flim, and about robbing the North End and getting "townie haircuts" for his upcoming project, The Town, a Ben Affleck-directed bank heist drama filmed in and around Boston.

And when asked about his thoughts on the upcoming Oscars ("You've said Kathryn's going to win the Academy Awards. What about you?"), Renner -- not one to shy away from some gracious pandering -- replied: "I've already won, my friend; I've already won."
