Meet the Mayor: South Street Diner

Welcome to "Meet the Mayor," a segment in which we interview local Foursquare Mayors in their natural habitats.

South Street Diner
John Angelo Gnassi

I see from how you just rolled up on a motor scooter that you're a bad-ass as well as mayor of the diner. How's that working out for you?
Well, scootering is actually one of the best ways to get around the city if biking isn't available. I've always thought scooters were underused in the US. I see a lot of them in Europe. I got this one almost four years ago. It's got 7000-plus miles on it, just from riding around the city and the suburbs.

What's your favorite thing to eat here?
Well, I like trying a bunch of different things. But I'm kind of a simple guy. I like the steak and eggs in the morning. That always gets me going. The coffee's okay. It's nice that they serve beer late at night. This place is the classic. It's been here since, what, the '30s? [It was built in 1947. _Eds.] I come here when I can, particularly because I don't know how much longer it's going to be here. You see any other one-story buildings around us?

You're upsetting me. Let's change the subject.
Let's get some food!
