Meet the Mayor: City Hall Plaza

Welcome to "Meet the Mayor," a segment in which we interview local Foursquare Mayors in their natural habitats.

Boston City Hall Plaza
Paul Pereira

Are you envious of the mayor of City Hall -- either of them?
Menino 's got a hard job. I'm not jealous of him. He's done it for so long, I bet he's pretty good at it, whether people want to believe he is or not. As for the Foursquare mayor [of City Hall], it's hard to be jealous of someone you don't know.

Isn't it time we said "the hell with it" and crowned Menino king?
He already is, isn't he?

No, like, with a crown and a robe and stuff.
No. With a king in place, you can't get rid of him unless you rebel. We don't need bloodshed and riots.

What do you think of bricks?
These look old. They need cleaning, I think. There used to be a lot of seagulls here. I don't know if they've been chased away, or maybe they sense the elephant in the Big Apple Circus tent. I heard an elephant the other day.

Was it a gentle elephant, or a furious elephant?
It wasn't a loud, ‘I'm scared' noise. More like, ‘Leave me alone or shoot me with some water.' It was a very chill elephant.
