ClearChannel turning 101.7 into Republican Talk: Glenn Beck, Rush, Jay Severin hit FM

ClearChannel Radio's Talk 1200 AM station appears to be headed to FM, unless the website //talk1017.com is a ruse. The right-wing talk station -- which carries Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Jay Severin -- would replace a certain signal near and dear to the Phoenix's heart, after the FCC approves the sale of the 101.7 FM frequency from the Phoenix Media/Communications Group to ClearChannel, a move expected to take place at the end of July.

WFNX is still on the terrestrial airwaves at 101.7 FM, and no end date for the broadcast has been set -- but the station has announced that even after ClearChannel assumes the 101.7 bandwidth, WFNX will continue as an online streaming station at wfnx.net. WFNX is staging a month-long celebration, through July 21, of its 29-year legacy, including on-air sets by former DJs, broadcasts of historic live performances, and "station takeovers" by bands and even some of the station's most dedicated listeners.

The Phoenix is publishing a tribute to WFNX's broadcast legacy on July 19.
