Big Daddy’s

The name says it all

The name of this Brighton joint is apt: the subs here could double as free weights, and the appetizers will satisfy the inner child of many with a variety of melt-in-your-mouth bite-size appetizers (while also satisfying your wallet).

Roll up your sleeves before attacking the homemade chicken-parmesan sub ($6.75), brimming with strips of breaded chicken cutlet and thick marinara sauce, all on an Italian sub roll sealed with a thick layer of mozzarella. Pump some iron with the Big Daddy steak deluxe sub ($6.75), which is loaded with tender mushrooms, peppers, fried onions, melted American cheese, and your choice of sauce.

Or try the broccoli cheddar bites ($4.95), filled with bacon bits and tiny chunks of broccoli, and smothered in a gooey cheddar-cheese sauce that has a satisfying golden-brown crunchy outer shell. If you’re still hungry, indulge in the carnival-worthy fried dough ($4.25), cut into buttered bite-size squares coated with a powdered-sugar-and-cinnamon topping.

For true decadence, we also recommend the cheese-stuffed pizza sticks ($6.75) with a side of marinara dipping sauce. Stringy, thick mozzarella is squeezed between two layers of pizza crust and cut into dunk-ready strips — but first, it’s topped with a buttery parmesan spread that you’ll fight the urge to lick straight off the top.

Big Daddy’s, located at 436 Western Avenue, in Brighton, is open Monday through Saturday, from 11 am to 11 pm, and on Sunday, from 12:30 pm to 10 pm. Call 617.787.1080.
