• NOW IS NOW frontman MITCH ALDEN has plans for a solo release. The party's scheduled for January 21 at RiRa. Expect some seriously upbeat power pop.
• Looks like the new LUCID album will be released on February 4 with a huge throwdown at Port City Music Hall, with the Lucid supported by SPACE VS. SPEED, which will also emphasize the release of their still-new disc. First up, though? The Lucid will be "the '70s" for the big State Theatre New Year's Eve Clash of the Titans tilt. GRAND HOTEL will take on the '80s, while ZACH JONES and the gang will tackle the '60s. It ought to be a crowd-pleaser.
• BUCK EDWARDS has arranged a date for the release show to support his sophomore release, Loaded Gun. Get your honky tonk to Bayside Bowl January 22.
• The SOPHOMORE BEAT just got done doing four songs in the studio with JONATHAN WYMAN. Coming off the SPARKS THE RESCUE disc, Wyman's been swimming in radio-rock-pop as of late. That studio's been a fun place to be lately.
• Drummer DAN CAPALDI, who's backed the CAMBIATA along with a number of studio projects, has a solo EP ready for release under the moniker SEA LEVEL. The show will be at the Empire January 29.
• For those keeping track at home, NANCY CHALMERS has taken her BOTTOM OF THE EAST PRODUCTIONS to Bayside Bowl. Don't be surprised to see rockabilly now regularly gracing the stage there.

- The Cyborg Trio make it up as they go along
Portland hasn't had a band like the Cyborg Trio in while. They're almost certainly the best/only live all-instrumental dance band since Slowing Room stopped playing out (and they actually had some vocals sometimes). Also, Slowing Room had, well, songs.
- New projects, debuts, and goodbyes

- From solid to standout
Maybe the most surprising thing about Portland indie band Brenda’s set at the Wilco-curated Solid Sound Festival on the Mass MoCA campus in North Adams, Massachusetts, on Saturday was that people were actually there to see it. Lots of them.
