Shake some action
By PROVIDENCE MUSIC STAFF  |  February 25, 2009

Sling some shuffleboard while MARK CUTLER slings the six-string TONIGHT (the 26th) at Nick-a-Nee's (401.861.7290), or head to East Greenwich as GREG BURGESS AND JOHNNY CARLEVALE go acoustic at the Greenwich Hotel (401.884.4200); both shows are free of charge. Jerky's Bar (401.621.2244) hosts SoCal Sublime cover band 40 OZ. OF FREEDOM, with locals BAYLOCK, THE TICONDEROGAS, and FORMAL ACTION ($14 at the door). Tix are going fast for the big MONTY ARE I hometown throwdown at Club Hell on FRIDAY (the 27th) with PENROSE, DANGER ROOM, and FORDOES ME QUITE opening. The 6 pm show is $10 in advance, call 401.709.3923 for ticket availability. Also, rockers JERI & THE JEEPSTERS hit Mulhearn's (401.438.9292) in East Providence, ROUTE .44 with THE DIVORCED and JEFF BYRD & DIRTY FINCH visit the Blackstone (401.726.2181), STEVE SMITH & THE NAKEDS head north to Effin's Last Resort in Smithfield (401.349.3500), while WHALEBONE JACKSON and JACQUELINE BARTLETT handle the blues at the Greenwich Hotel (21+, no cover). And check out the "Girls Plugged Inn" series with the LIZ BORDEN BAND and MICHELLE RIBEIRO opening at the Sunset Bar & Grille in North Providence (401.726.8889) SATURDAY (the 28th) finds mash-up mayhem with RHYTHMAFIA and ROOTS DOWN BELOW at the Roger Williams University Fieldhouse; the show is free and open to the public; checkrwu.edu for more. Experimental rock rules at Firehouse 13 (401.270.1801), with Somerville's CONCORD BALLET ORCHESTRA PLAYERS plus local talents TEVELLUS, 3D MYSTERY, and the noteworthy BAYLIES BAND outta New Bedford. SEXCOFFEE reminds me of the long-lost '90s band Mary's Danish (or Fleetwood Mac-meets-Sleater-Kinney); check 'em out with HEATHER ROSE & THE DRAMA, HEDNOD, and HANDS OFF LOVE AFFAIR at the Blackstone. Acclaimed accordion phenom CORY PESATURO (who played the White House when he was 12) hits the squeezebox at Chan's (401.765.1900), and another Sublime-lovin' act arrives when ex-Badfish frontman Dave Ladin returns with TOP SHELF at the Ocean Mist (401.782.3740). And head to Club Hell on TUESDAY (the 3rd) for the Toronto synth-and-keys chick known as LIGHTS, with locals CITY CONFESSIONS and Boston's FLY UPRIGHT KITE (all-ages, doors at 7 pm, myspace/com/clubhelllive).SEND INFO TOHOMEGROWNPRODUCT@GMAIL.COM.
