Sexiest video game studs of 2010

A banner year for pixelated pieces of ass

HONORABLE MENTION goes to Jacob Taylor of Mass Effect 2, who probably would’ve been my number one pick if BioWare hadn’t wasted his debut on a 2009 iPhone game that wasn’t even good

Shameless objectification. That’s what gamers like to see: toned, fit bodies performing fantastic physical stunts in skimpy outfits. Thing is, the games industry isn’t just pandering to their straight male audience these days. We’re starting to see some equal-opportunity eye candy.

This is my third year compiling a year-end list of the sexiest new male video game characters. In 2008, I didn’t have too much trouble finding ten dudes to fill my list, but the cutting room floor was hardly full. In 2009, competition got much stiffer, and I had to make some very tough decisions. This year, I’ve had the hardest time yet. Is the increase in hot male video game characters an accident? Is it meant to acknowledge two oft-ignored but growing minorities: female and gay male gamers? Does it indicate a rising percentage of developers who dig dudes? Frankly, I’d rather turn off my brain and squee like a middle schooler at all the pretty rather than ponder the political implications. Care to join me?

Note: These are characters that made their first appearances in a 2010 game, so if you're planning to whine about a stud that didn't make the cut, make sure he actually debuted this year.

  •   REVIEW: MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 3  |  February 23, 2011
MvC3 doesn't even attempt to take a stand on crossover match-ups, since all the fighters must be of comparable strength, or the game won't function. Is it ridiculous to see the Phoenix lose against Magneto? Yes. Fans of X-Men know that's impossible, but in this game, anything can happen.

It's been three years since Dead Space, both for us and for protagonist Isaac Clarke, who wakes up with no memory of what's happened since we last saw his simple spaceship-engineering assignment turn into a fight against undead monsters called Necromorphs.
