If you like 24 you might like this By: CHRIS WANGLER4/25/2006 6:22:58 PM
Gone are the salad days when you could stroll into Ford’s Theater, shoot the president and flee; today, he can’t take a leak without five agents holding his dink. Set in the paranoid world of overcompetent, egomaniacal Secret Service agents, Clark Johnson’s thriller is the perfect movie for people whose enjoy a longish episode of CSI or 24. Veteran agent Pete Garrison (Michael Douglas) almost let Reagan get killed, so he never landed the top job; instead, he protects the first lady (Kim Basinger), whom he’s nailing on the side. When he’s implicated in an internal plot to kill President Ballentine, he must find the mole while eluding the government’s bitchiest investigator (Kiefer Sutherland), who hates his guts. With so many legitimate reasons to go after the current prez, it’s disappointing that this Fugitive knockoff, directed by Clark Johnson, provides no credible motives for the baddies. Grumpy boyfriends will guess the mole’s identity long before the anti-climactic assassination attempt.
