‘If truth is beauty, how come no one has their hair done in a library?’ - Lily Tomlin
Searching for a new stylist to cut my hair, I stumbled upon multiple Web sites inviting people to share their experiences at various salons. Comments like “she made me look like a movie star!” were countered by “that bitch destroyed my hair!”, making it hard to know who to trust. We are often perceived and judged on the basis of first appearances, yet we constantly put our appearance in the hands of someone we met just moments before — someone who knows almost nothing about us except our name and maybe our credit-card number. Sometimes we just sit there, hoping the stylist doesn’t say “uh-oh”, and hoping they’re paying more attention to how we look than to how they look. But then, it’s really just hair. It’ll probably grow back. |
