If you are attacked

By EMILY PARKHURST  |  January 17, 2007

Going to the hospital does not mean you have to report to the police. You can receive medical treatment without involving the police.

If you agree to an exam while at the hospital, you will not have to pay for any treatments including STD and pregnancy prophylactics. You can refuse any part of the exam.

Having a Rape Kit done does not mean you must go to the police. You can do the examination anonymously and then you have up to 90 days to decide whether or not to come forward before the evidence is discarded.

Physical evidence has been found up to fourteen days after a rape still inside the victim. Trained forensic nurses can still find evidence even after a victim has showered several times.

Rape is NEVER the victim’s fault!
