Mp3 of the Week: All That Remains

DOWNLOAD: All That Remains, "This Calling" (mp3)

As usual, you won’t be able to throw an elbow at Ozzfest next month without smacking a New England metal/hardcore band. This year’s breakout act should be mainstage tech-thrash furies Unearth, whose III: In the Eyes of Fire (Metal Blade) drops smack in the middle of the tour. But don’t overlook All That Remains, whose The Fall of Ideals (Prosthetic, out July 11), produced by Killswitch Engage’s Adam Dutkiewicz, builds on Killswitch’s foundation of muscle and well-placed melody. To outsiders, the differences in metal bands are imperceptible, but to people like us, because we're all recovering speedmetal freaks, you can feel the difference: aside from this being a great tune, they've just got that undeniable rhythm crunch that makes good friends smile and punch each other in the fucking face.
