A dozen fresh faces on Boston's music scene
SOCCER MOMCLASS OF 2012 TRACK • "(A) NATURAL HISTORY" [Listen] [Download]
When Soccer Mom released You Are Not Going to Heaven off London's 100m Records back in September, the buzz of the guitars and casual vocals brought the city back to its celebrated early-'90s indie scene. "(A) Natural History" drew upon these fuzzy memories, but the rest of the mini-album roared with more urgency than its influential predecessors. Simply defined as "loud" by ringleader Dan Parlin (who relocated to Boston from San Francisco in the late-'00s), Soccer Mom have a jangle that weighs heavy, at times sneaking into the realm of post-rock, while their dream-pop tendencies are too immersed in noise and impatience to float without direction. Whatever, it just fucking crushes. A new record is expected some time in 2012, and it should cement Soccer Mom as one of Boston's finest.
