The 'BRU Rock Hunt kicks off

A seriously busy weekend on the live circuit begins tonight (the 22nd) with free gig courtesy of THE GOODS at Nick-a-Nee's (401.861.7290) and the excellent TIM TAYLOR BLUES BAND at the Greenwich Hotel (401.884.4200), while GRANDEVOLUTION rocks out with GENERATION DOWN at JR's Bourbon Street Rock House (401.463.3080), and SPOGGA continues his weekly residency at Ri Ra downtown. Call 401.272.1953. On FRIDAY (the 23rd), knock back Scorpion Bowls and boogie with NYC guitar legend POPA CHUBBY, who performs two sets at Chan's (401.765.1900). The Blackstone (401.726.2181) will host ROUTE .44 with brother-and-sis rock duo VULGARRITY, THE VOLUNTEERS, and Brooklyn chick rockers SHIRAGIRL. Also, WBRU fires up their annual Rock Hunt with a kickoff party headlined by SOMEDAY PROVIDENCE, with SENIOR DISCOUNT, THE INTEL, THE TICONDEROGAS, and LION OF IDO, for $12 at the door. And Firehouse No. 13 starts up a busy weekend in collaboration with the month-long Wham Five Diagnosis art exhibit with BLUESHIFT, DIAGRAMA, WATERDOGS, and ZERFALLT on Friday and FREIDA ABTAN, FAT WORM OF ERROR, and STEVE MATTOS (ex-Arab On Radar) aka Chrome Jackson on SATURDAY (the 24th). Both shows are $5, call 401.270.1801. Run to Club Hell (401.709.3923) beforehand for an early show with FREEZEPOP, HERRA TERRA, and MAHI MAHI. Expect plenty of Sublime and RHCP renditions from ex-Badfish crooner Dave Ladin, who now fronts TOP SHELF. They're at the Ocean Mist in Matunuck (401.782.3740). Also: the indie-rock stylings of NEO NOUVEAU, ANISETTE, GLOWKID, and THE CANDACE BROOKS BAND at AS220 (401.831.9327); BURY THE WEAK, DEAD TO RISE, and RISK ALL IN LIFE mutilate eardrums at Cats (401.722.0150); and KANERKO, BLOODWITCH, TESTER, THE EMPIRE SHALL FALL, and ZERO GODZ hit Jerky's (401.621.2244). On a lighter note, RISA presents MIKE G., WHALEBONEJACKSON, and PETE GENDRON at Brooklyn Coffee and Tea House (401.575.2284). And local accordion prodigy CORY PESATURO squeezes out everything from classical to Klezmer music at the Blackstone River Theatre in Cumberland. Admission is $12. Call 401.725.9272. On SUNDAY (the 25th), Cumby locals ANOTHER OPTION rock out with THE DIG, CRASH SOCIETY, and NEMES at Club Hell. AS220 has the locally grown indie-folk local lineup of LAST GOOD TOOTH, TALLAHASSEE, DETROIT REBELLION, and BEN PILGRIM AND THE FREE UNION BAND on MONDAY (the 26th), while ROZ RASKIN & THE RICE CAKES team up with HEMLOK on TUESDAY (the 27th).
