Amanda Palmer to join Boston Pops for New Year's Eve show

&#a0;

AMANDA PALMER will join the BOSTON POPS and Keith Lockhart for the Pops annual New Years' Eve shindig at Symphony Hall this year, the Pops announced today. Tickets are $45 to $160 and go on sale tomorrow at 10 am. The Pops just wrapped up a date with Amanda's pal (and producer) Ben Folds on Friday. First Night will be the third date for Lockhart and Palmer, who previously teamed up for a pair of gigs last summer.

This is what we love -- and we know some of you despise -- about Boston: it's a town where a hometown artist can gain what amounts to a semi-official sanction, so that Amanda can go around hanging out with the heavyweights of the non-profit arts sector, and the Dropkick Murphys operate as the city's fifth professional sports franchise while hobnobbing with the other four.

From the inbox:

"Provocative musician and artist Amanda Palmer will join Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops on Thursday, December 31, at 10 p.m., to ring in the New Year at Symphony Hall. Doors for this New Year’s Eve celebration will open at 8:00 p.m. with pre-concert entertainment, and all concert-goers will be treated to a gourmet boxed dinner. The evening’s festivities will feature Keith Lockhart leading the Boston Pops, and will feature material from Palmer’s punk cabaret group The Dresden Dolls, her solo album, Who Killed Amanda Palmer, and much more. Amanda Palmer last performed with the Boston Pops on June 19 and 20, 2008."

 Tix available from the Pops.
