Women: Should we rejoice?
Really, birth control in all its shapes and sizes is a woman's job, except for the condom. It's the one thing that can really protect against STDs and it's "supposed" to be a man's job to have them ready when needed, although let's be honest at least AT LEAST 50 percent of the time women are actually the ones with these things in our purses just in case. So should we rejoice that the FDA has passed the newest, cheapest condom for females?
The FDA approved a version that is cheaper, less noisy, and made from synthetic rubber so people allergic to latex can use it. Beyond it being just another option for people to use to protect themselves, it's also good cause women can have it in well before sex starts, leaving the man no choice but to go with the flow and added benie is the outer ring of the condom could possibly tickle your clit during sex. Always a good thing.
But really, for the developed world anyway, I'm not screaming about it. It's always a good thing to have choices and I'm not downing the technology of it, but it is annoying in my eyes to think they are spending countless dollars to make the one birth control option that rested on men's shoulders now a woman's problem as well.
My annoyance was peaked when reading on www.plannedparenthood.org's page on female condoms, under benefits for the female condom it reads, as the number one benefit mind you, "will allow women to share responsibility for preventing infection." Right, like it's not already our problem and we certainly don't share in that responsibility. Give me a break!
