Review: All's Faire In Love

Scott Marshall's Renn Faire stinker

It seems that before actually performing in a Renaissance Faire, actors first have to appear in a movie about one. Some name talent probably won't be putting Scott Marshall's 2009 stinker on their résumés. Christina Ricci looks lost as she strips off her business school clothes and dons those of a medieval wench. Ann-Margret as the Queen utters lines like "Believe in the Faire or be fired!" Cedric the Entertainer lucks out, spending most of his screen time in a suit of armor. Only Owen Benjamin as Will, an arrogant college quarterback sentenced to the Faire for skipping classes, rises above the material, and he does so by underplaying. Which is not hard when the rest of the cast wallows through humor that includes a goat urinating on someone (I felt bad for the goat). At first resentful, Will learns lessons about love and selflessness. And Benjamin, one hopes, learns that he needs a new agent.
