Every Sunday at Brian Boru from 3 to 6 pm, there is a traditional Irish music jam session. Listen carefully and you'll hear bagpipes and drums, flutes and fiddles, settled in a dark corner in the back of the bar. It's not completely obvious that there are live musicians in the house, since they're hunkered down at tables with the rest of the post-brunch crowd. The casualness of the set, of the musicians, some even enjoying an afternoon Guinness, adds to the authenticity of the group, like these guys (and girl) could actually be getting together in a pub in Dublin to have a few pints and jam.
One patron confessed that on such a warm, sunny afternoon the band was smaller than usual, as was the crowd. It's not uncommon to have multiple generations of musicians, grandparents and grandchildren dropping in. It would be the perfect rainy afternoon activity — bundle up and enjoy a Jameson hot toddy and hear some Irish music. It would've been even cooler if there were some hot Irish women step-dancing, but then again there might not have been room.
