VIDEO: The Slutcracker adds two more shows
The Slutcracker, the holiday burlesque show that whisks the audience away to a carefree realm of sexual fantasy, has been such a hit with festive hornball audiences that creator/director Vanessa "Sugar Dish" White has added two more shows -- Friday Dec. 19 and Saturday Dec. 20, 8 pm at the Somerville Theatre.
Take it from us (or don't -- just click on the video above to check out the footage we shot on opening night): this is some next-level shit. If you were expecting a vaguely holiday-themed burlesque revue, think again: it's an extraordinarily well-plotted, scene-by-scene, song-by-song retelling of The Nutcracker. If you're familiar with the Boston Ballet version you'll get more of the in-jokes, and everyone else can concentrate on enjoying larger-than-life candystriped dildos and pole-dancing sugar plum fairies. By the end of the first act, we were pretty sure we'd just witnessed the birth of a new Boston holiday tradition.
Of the initial four-show run last weekend, three nights sold out and a matinee appeared to be no more than a dozen tickets short of a full house. Tickets to the newly-added shows are available only at the Somerville box office. Sashay down to Davis Square for some titillating holiday cheer that doesn't involve knocking back too much eggnog and accidentally making out with your second cousin in your grandmother's spare bedroom. Oops.
