Moon and stars

I've been meaning to note this for a couple of days, but since the weekend, there's been a spectacular view of the waxing moon flanked by Venus and Jupiter at night. Venus is the brighter star, BTW

Finky earth sign lovers

Is what I'm writing about this afternoon before the Tday stuff happens. Have you been surprised/dismayed by an earth sign lover who was NOT steady/reliable/faithful/whathaveyou? Gems and Scorps get the bumrap about being flakey companions, but I know I've heard from folks about WHAT an unpredictable pain their taur/virg/cap lover was. Tell me again! sally@moonsigns.net

Obamalot

Not quite Camelot, but don't you feel hopeful? Despite the financial crisis and the fact that two large department stores I was in recently (a Linens and Things and some sports apparel store) were having mega-slash-discount sales and auction dates set for the store fixtures. This kind of thing is indicative of largescale shakeup. Although my husband tells me that Wal-Mart is booming (I don't shop at Wal-Mart if I can help it but use things he brings home which is standard capitalist hypocrisy I guess). But Obama. Another LEO president! Good for us.

Worlds collide

Some of you may know my real name, and my real world elected position. Some may know me as a retired music critic, or former girlfriend to writer-types in the public eye, or producer at Night Flight, or editor of Button, New England's Tiniest Magazine of poetry, fiction, gracious living. Most people where I live know me as the mother of my son, which is absolutely perfect. Now, we are expecting another child, a babygirl and I find that my identity, as an astrologer and as someone with a public identity is shifting. It feels different to be expecting a babygirl versus babyboy and I can't quite identify what those differences are. I am assuming my daughter will have an interesting life with avid curiosity and that she will work hard to improve her community. That is my hope and that is something to strive for. As recipients of a magical unique astrological blueprint, fingermark, we always have the option of being the best of our sign. I have worked for some excellent water sign editors through my years as a journalist. I've also worked for utterly impossible, attention-deficit mis-micromanagers, and at this point in life, I am only surrounded by the former. We all have the choice to work for a career we want to have -- or we can choose not to have a career, but rather see what life serves up. Most of my clients are highly directed, emotionally responsive folks who can have a heightened sense of anticipation. The people I see who want a tarot reading, or those I speak to on the radio periodically like quirky observations ("you like to collect strange old stuff," "you're lucky and often win the raffle you enter") versus the more probing analysis. It's all good -- honest! Speaking of which, I wanted to throw a little opportunity out there. I am writing a book due well before the baby is due, but I'm working hard and would love to hear from you if you have some interesting observations about your signs. I've already made this offer to family and friends and astrological folks. I have a very brief and somewhat entertaining questionnaire I'd be happy to send you if you'd like to be "data" for my book. I'll try to use everyone and I can use a pseudonym for you if you prefer. Email me at Sally@moonsigns.net if you'd like to weigh in.

today's astrology...

moon void-of-course in Capricorn until 7 pm (4 pm PT) when it moves into Aquarius. Like we already don't know people on the west coast always want change and the newnewnew. Given that it's Barack, in a big way, and given that the democrats will be in all likelihood gaining some real estate in the House, what do you think W is going to pull off in his lamestduck final weeks? My guess is extensive deregulation and I suspect gas prices will stay low for awhile. Outgoing presidents tend to want to burnish the legacy in their final moments and since the one thing Bush HASNT done is tinker with the judicial system in terms of pardoning felon friends, that's always a possibility. But what I really want to know is what Cheney will be doing.

I was on WCRN 830 am for an hour on Monday w/hank stolz and out of 7 people whose scopes I did quickie looks at, something like 2 of them were born on the FULL moon and the REST were born a day or two before new moon. Which goes to show -- when the lunar phase gets to be the same phase you had when you were born... you take action!

A really great journal by a Gemini

Elyse Sewell apparently was on America's Next Top Model, but more interestingly she's keeping a detailed photo/diary of her time in Hong Kong and China where she works as a model. Absolutely hilarious and brilliant stuff and classic Gemini preoccupations. Go visit!//elysesewell.livejournal.com/

Waiting for...

Mercury to go direct so I can sign a book contract (Oct. 15) the desire to drink coffee to return (yes! 2 days ago!) A feeling of I Have Time to set in after leaving a tedious and annoying contract job (not yet) Feeling like sending out releases on buttonbox shadow theater Customers at Roots in Leominster on Thursday! I just started a new project: Astrological Tarot Readings at Roots on Thursdays in October and thinking I'll carry this on as long as I can. Tarot is fun, and the astrology adds a useful element for me. Plus the financial meltdown is making everyone crazy. I looked at my IRA with dismay today -- I have lost months of income just *poof* Hopefully I won't need it til the offspring are in college.

Here's the stuff on Roots. Come on down!

Astrological Tarot Readings

by Boston Phoenix astrology columnist

How we got here

Wow. What a mess. Credit lines are frozen so small business will be screwed in the coming weeks. Just in time for the holidays! Is it that we all are grasshoppers vs. ants? Here's what's happening astrologically. Mercury rx, plus deepening Saturn/Uranus opposition (exact in late October and early November), Mars/Neptune trine. You may recall in 2000, when Bush ran on a platform of The Sky is/will be falling and Gore ran on a "let's continue as we have begun" and Florida recount gave Bush 567 more votes and America the biggest reaming of my lifetime (at least since the Reagan era, which by comparison looks innocent and thrifty). The answer is: the nation goes into a nervous breakdown mode whenever the change of power is INEVITABLE. It wasn't as hinky in 2004 since we had a sitting president. Ditto 1996, the year of the Newt Gingrich (remember him?) would-be takeover.

More projects...

Here's the deal: I'm writing a book, which is due extremely-quickly-inthegrandscale of things which is basically a general astrology book focussing on the elements. Are you a fire sign who only gets along with fire signs? Are you a Scorpio who has no time for Pisces or Cancer? Are you an air sign who loves air signs but has closest relationships with earth or water signs? Are you an earth sign who needs fire signs in your life? Tell me your story -- email me at sally@moonsigns.net. I'm just collecting data and anecdotage at this point.

Sarah Palin, too much, too soon

She's an Aquarius. Which explains the comfort speaking other people's lines. I watched her speech with rapt fascination. The political arena is such a place for showboating, that to have the same bluster coming out of someone with a decidedly yupwardly suburban mom look was jarring. If only she was smart and not clever. Alaska is a really, really small state. How hard is it to rise high in state politics? But the part that really bugs me is the sanctimony. Here's someone who came out against sex ed., wanted to ban books at the library, is against enviro. regs, tried to jeezle the state system to nail an in-law, yet everything's coming up roses. Women, we have GOT to get better candidates out there. I speak as someone who has been extremely close to political campaigns (varying in size from state to township) and I'm telling you. It's a bonehead's world out there. if you can put a sentence together, keep your mouth shut when needed, stick to principles (HAVE some principles) and vision, you're ahead of the game. Women, if Sarah Palin is standing in for our gender, and, for the moment, has the attention of the world, we've got to do better. Nancy Pelosi, yay. Hillary, yay. Jennifer Flanagan, Jennifer Benson, yay. Worse, Palin makes me think of all the stuff about Aquarius I hate -- the situational ethics, the blithe mouthpiecing, the blather. Let's wrap this one up, shall we?

oh, so now it's september?

The astrology tarot side of Symboline Ltd. has been going at supersonic speeds lately. The Virgo folks are needing to check in and yes, it's a fairly surreal year plus one for them. I have to remind myself what day it ACTUALLY is because I've been writing so much stuff for 2010. Re: presidential stuff. Okay, you've got a Leo/Scorpio combination (Obama/Biden) and Virgo/Aquarius combination (McCain/Palin). Our last Virgo presidents: Johnson and Taft. Our last Leo presidents: Clinton and Herbert Hoover and Benjamin Harrison. McCain could surprise us, but I can't remember the last time there was full-on rabit excitement for a contendah. Virgo is one of those signs that's a collection of conundrums. Perfectionistic and heedless, curious and stubborn. Mutable earth, like fixed water (Scorpio) is a paradox from the get-go. McCain has had a great August, but I suspect it's downhill from here. Joe Biden could really be a force to be reckoned with late in October...

A weird month

A news story noted that one of the landmarks in Arches Canyon, Utah collapsed. I'm reminded of the collapse of the Old Man of the Mountain, which I had occasion to see many times. Just a reminder that the forces that rule the universe are basic, pitiless and logical. Elements and gravity, physics and time. If we think we're doing a fast one or end run around circumstances, the universe has a way of winding things back. And so it is with astrology. Some signs are facing more than the usual challenges. It's not your "fault" but if you're one of those signs (Saturn return, mid-'30s, Virgo or Pisces), you should look for opportunities to make the most of circumstances that may seem to be beyond your control. This is a huge growth period for you -- like it or not. And the universe is saying Take more responsibility. Some signs (Aquarians, Gems) have a fairly neutral relationship with responsibility -- and don't seem to mind. Anyway, an eclipse is coming up this month also, so ... yeeesh....

August

I love the Olympics. Every two years I'm happy to put the brakes on life and settle down and enjoy. It's theater on a scale that only Cirque du Soleil and the late Theatre de la June Lune endeavors. Plus, there are massive astrological implications. You can't tell me that activities involving skill, resoluteness and other values prized by the gods aren't being watched. Hubris is the greatest danger to mortals, according to the ancients, and we'll see some of that, along with those who appease the gods of the games --- which in my opinion basically includes them all. The games are Apollonian, Dionysian, Mercurial, Jovial, and I wish they'd show more archery (Artemis, goddess of the moon). So what's your opinion?
