Trader Joe's on the way?

Maybe those online petitions and Facebook groups do work.

Word on the street is getting pretty thick - and from fairly reliable sources - that there will be a Trader Joe's opening in Portland - possibly in the old Wild Oats space on Marginal Way - at some point in the not-too-distant future.

Nothing official from TJ's yet, but we'll tell you what their publicity folk say when they call us back. Figured it was too tempting to wait, though, given that they may well deny it, despite everything we're hearing.

Everyone that moved from CA to Austin, TX wishes they had a Trader Joe's.  Maybe I will get to see what all the fuss is about when I move back to Portland.

Whenever I'm driving through Saugus, I stop at the TJ's on route 1. Last time I was there, the manager at the checkout said they expected to open a Portland store in the next year to 18 months (this was around Feb).

The old Wild Oats space eh?  Hard to believe considering the Whole Foods Corp. owns that building.

You know how journalists aren't supposed to print unverified rumors? It's because it's DAMNED ANNOYING to see a rumor that has been going around for years reported as news. From unnamed, 'fairly' reliable sources. How about letting us decide for ourselves how reliable they are? I get my hopes up for a TJs, based on this non-story? Argh is all I can say.

The word on the street can get as thick as it wants. If you want readers don't put the word on your blog if you're going to be all coy about it.
