  I agree with Dan 100%.  This too-subtle meta-analysis is suited to the New Yorker, perhaps, but not the New York Times.  I see what you're saying, Adam...but it feels too much like making excuses for grandpa pinching the younger cousins' butts at the family Christmas party.  At some point it stops being "he's just old and stubborn" and starts being "he's a misogynistic pedophile".

  However, I think we've already established that the Times is in the tank for Kennedy on this one.  I want to know why.  Is there a reporter or editor (or owner) who has something to gain by her getting the appointment?  Or avoids some loss?  What's the angle, here?
