Nominate-best-2010

Shakeup at BoMag

Interesting change over at Horticultural Hall: Boston editor James Burnett will now report to Larry Platt, the editor of Philadelphia, who's just been promoted to editorial director of Metro Corp., parent company of both magazines. Platt's mission, according to a memo from Metro Cop. chairman Herb Lipson, is to "ensure that all titles owned by the company fulfill the editorial mission at a high level."

Here's the memo in its entirety:

I am pleased to announce that Larry Platt will be taking on the additional role of Editorial Director for Metro Corp. This is a newly created position in the company, designed to ensure that all titles owned by the company fulfill the editorial mission at a high level. James Burnett will continue in his role as Editor of Boston magazine, reporting now to Larry.

Larry will maintain his role as Editor of Philadelphia magazine, which he's held for over six years. During that time, the magazine has been recognized as one of the leading magazines in the country. During his tenure, Philadelphia magazine has been a finalist for the National Magazine Award in General Excellence each of the last two years. The magazine has also shown tremendous strength on the circulation front, posting its best newsstand performance in a decade last year.

Larry will be in the Boston magazine offices tomorrow and Friday, meeting everyone and getting the lay of the land. Please join me in congratulating him. I look forward to Larry and James producing great magazines together.

D. Herbert Lipson

Chairman

Does this change imply displeasure with the redesign?  Personally, I'm not that impressed with it.

Isn't D. Herbert Lipson the 347-year-old publisher of "The Onion"?
