New in the Phoenix: The Real McCrea

In which I discuss mayoral longshot Kevin McCrea's transformation from 2005 to today, and examine what effect he'll have on the Boston mayor's race.

    Great piece Adam.

It's clear that McCrea is EXACTLY what the city needs right now.

As an aside, you really only scratched the surface of the problem with the big Boston media covering campaigns. I won't go into my lengthly experience with them - which led me to leave politics and work in the media instead of just complaining and producing spreadsheets about their dismal, unfair coverage. Simply put, they don't want to cover everyone. That's work. And now, with shrinking newsholes, it will be even worse than it was before.

It should be a standard to make sure the reporter at least mentions each candidate in every story about the mayoral race. For each story online, there should be more text than in the print editions with links to all the interactive stuff offered to voters. It isn't very hard to keep a template at the Globe or the Herald or Channel 7 so that the regular reporters who are going to be covering the mayoral race - or any race - have access to links, previous articles, etc. It will expand the product, give readers and voters the maximum amount of information, and is the fairest way to cover the race [or races].
