Countdown to Election '08

A reminder on the related stuff on Election night . . .

-- RI Democrats will be at the Providence Biltmore ballroom.

-- RI Republicans will be at Ruth's Chris in the GTECH building, free admission (and valet parking!), starting at 7 pm.

-- The Providence Black Repertory Company (on whose board I serve) is having an Election Watch/fundraiser, One Nation Under a Groove ($20, complimentary apps), from 5 pm-1 am.

-- Youth in Action is staging a benefit/Election Watch ($15) at Snookers, 145 Clifford St., Providence, from 6-11 pm.

-- The Scurvy Dog on Westminster Street is having a "Drink Bush out of office" celebration, from 5 pm-1 am.

-- J+W students will be doing a same-day registration event:

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Oct.28, 2008 – Starting in 2004, everyone became eligible to vote for the office of U.S. President even if they have not previously registered. On Election Day, people may register to vote and cast a same-day ballot for President of the United States. Johnson & Wales University students will gather at Gaebe Commons on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 2-hour intervals* to walk, run, or be bussed to the Dunkin’ Donuts Center to exercise that option.

-- RI Right to Vote is doing an event on Monday, November 3, in Kennedy Plaza's Burnside Park, from 12:30 to 2 pm, to "celebrate restored voting rights, inform RI probationers and parolees that they have the right to vote, and to inform all RI citizens that, if they are not registered to vote," they may still register at their local board of canvassars on Election Day.
