What some call an overly generous social safety net has enabled Rhode Island to have a relatively low proportion of uninsured residents. With high unemployment and other economic woes, however, access to health-care is worsening.

Writing in this week's Phoenix, Marion Davis describes how those who lack health insurance can get help, from community health centers, prescription drugs, and the Rhode Island Free Clinic to HealthAccessRI, hospital care, mental-health coverage, and more.
