[mp3] Parlour Bells "Speak Up," demand to play the Faces Nightclub demolition party

Photobucket

Yesterday, the Boston Globe ran a story about how legendary Route 2 nightclub Faces will host one "last hurrah" before facing the wrecking ball in a few weeks, a demolition that arrives many long overdue years after the Cambridge eyesore has become a sort-of dilapidated landmark and source of nightlife intrigue for those under 35 who long for the lost glory days of disco.

Not much is known about this final party-- there will be tents, there will be appetizers, there will be nary a dry 40- and 50-something eye throughout the sunken-in, cracked-concrete parking lot -- but that hasn't stopped Boston noir-pop duo PARLOUR BELLS from wanting to perform live at the send-off.

And who can blame them? The artwork for Parlour Bells 2010 debut EP, Heart Beatings, was shot outside the worn-out, beaten-down, and cruelly neglected discotheque by the Phoenix's Derek Kouyoumjian, and the band has even started a Facebook campaign to get the gig.

By the time the space begins to transform into a 227-unit apartment building next month, this golden opportunity to link the past with the present will be lost forever, along with the faded memories of those who actually partied there in the late '70s and 80s, and the bodies likely buried deep within the lot (we're sure that's just an old urban legend, though).

To further their Faces campaign, the Parlour pair of Glenn DiBenedetto and Nate Leavitt have offered their latest track, "Speak Up," for free download below. It's a bit more David Bowie than Daniel Disco, but at this point who gives a shit?

Let the band play Faces -- the place probably means just as much to those too young to ever go there than those who called it home back in the day. Our generation deserves a Faces experience.
