Jafar Panahi update

Back in September at the Montreal Film Festival I had the privilege of interviewing the great Iranian director, Jafar Panahi ("The Circle," "Crimson Gold," "Offside"), who was the president of the international jury . He was outspoken about his support for the the anti-government movement seeking a fair election, and with the intensifying government crackdown on such dissenters I have since been monitoring the internet for any news on his situation. Shortly after Montreal in October he served on the jury for the Mumbai Festival, but reports were hard to come by after that until just the other day when the "Tehran Times" ran an ominous sounding story about Panahi being restricted by the Iranian government from traveling out of the country. Let's hope this is just a temporary measure and Panahi will be allowed freedom to travel again -- and make films.
