National Society of Film Critics protests Panahi imprisonment
The National Society of Film Critics (of which I am a
member) have joined the Boston, L.A, and Toronto critics groups in
issuing statements against the continued incarceration of Jafar Panahi,
arrested March 1.
Meanwhile, though information is not very forthcoming and
Panahi remains incommunicado, his wife reports that the director has been
enduring Abu Ghraib-like conditions, stuck in a tiny cell without enough room
to lie down. More troubling are reports that he has has suffered symptoms of a
possible heart attack.
Again, those interested in adding their names to those
protesting this pointless injustice should sign up here.
