FARAONE: Why I voted for Nader

Since I’ll be in Chicago covering the Obama rallies next Tuesday, I just voted early down at Boston City Hall. Props to the election workers over there – I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. As the woman next to me commented, people have spent much longer paying parking tickets.

At the top of the ballot I voted for Ralph Nader and Matt Gonzalez. Before you start writing hate mail, please consider that this was not a protest vote. I’m as enamored of Barack Obama as any of his devotees; it’s just that I believe the point of voting is to choose him or her who is best qualified for the position. To hell with everyone who runs around boasting that they’re registered independents who are voting blue this time; you’re line-toeing, bullshit-eating Democrats like the rest of them.

Anyone who thinks for three seconds that Nader wouldn’t have smoked both major party candidates in all three debates knows nothing of the man. More than ever this country needs someone who not only has genuine compassion for poor and hard working people, but who has a distinguished track record of aiding them and combating greedy corporate interests. Don’t get me started about how much dirty money fueled this excessive Obama campaign. Like Nader would any Beltway politician – I’ll bury you.

Of course there’s also the obvious argument that this is a ripe time and place to pull for third party candidates. Sure – I believe that Massholes could and should dent the system since Obama is a shoo-in – but ultimately it doesn’t matter. The reality that an inexperienced ideologue such as him can get this much momentum on little more than charisma and widespread disdain for the opposing party proves that America will never climb out of this red and blue rut.

I am heading to the polls right now to vote for Nader/Gonzalez  (Heck, Matt Gonzalez would have smoked both Barack and McCain in the debates.)

well said, i hope you're wrong about us never climbing out of this red and blue rut, but i can see why it's hard to be optimistic about that.

i completely agree that people should vote for the best candidate. that's what i've devoted my entire blog to for the last 8 months, and for 8 months i've waited for someone to take me up on my challenge to find me someone better than nader to vote for. no one even bothered trying, and for good reason, Ralph Nader is clearly the best candidate.

As Mr. Nader says--we keep voting for winners, and we keep losing. certainly with the country stuck in a war that's already kill over 1.5 million, the economy in shambles, and the Constitution gutted--certainly it's way past time we started voting for the best candidate--someone who's worked tirelessly for decades to try to get us to prevent the very problems we are drowning in today.

Ralph Nadar was the better choice and he would have been a ground-breaking president for the working class of this country.  I would recommend the independent film: An Unreasonable Man to anyone interested in learning more about him.  However, I voted for Obama. This country is sadly not yet ready for a Nadar.  They were barely even ready for Obama.  While I respect you, I also don’t know who you people that vote for Nadar are kidding.  You’re worse than the disorganized peace protestors on Boston Commons.  As long as people like Sarah Palin continue to plague our media airwaves, Americans will continue to misunderstand how much corporate power is really fucking us and they will also continue to not even know who Ralph Nadar is.  I hope Sarah Palin chokes on one of her Alaskan moose pies.  This is another reason why I voted for Obama. There was no way I was letting my blue vote go wasted and see that nut job possibly become the first woman president of this country – no way.  Who knows, maybe if the economy gets worse we will be ready for a man like Nadar in 2012.  I hope so.  I would also like to note to Mr. Faraone that I have read a few of your articles on this election.  Your writing style clearly shows that you are nothing but a vulgar pothead who constantly belittles religion, republicans, and American war heroes. I think it is GREAT!!! Keep up the good fight, Chris. I really enjoyed your coverage of Grant Park.
