Autistic Marine found with child porn given bad-conduct discharged

Marine authorities caught Marine Pvt. Joshua Fry trying to run away and with child porn on his cell phone and his computer last summer (July 2008). Fry has been confined since then. News reports read that the 2008 incident was not the first time Fry was warned child porn was unacceptable. In an article published yesterday, ABC News was one of many news agencies reporting Marine commanders had already told Fry that sort of material was forbidden.

A court martial at Camp Pendleton found Fry guilty of misconduct and sentenced him to four years in prison with a bad-conduct discharge.  Fry was let out on a plea deal with time served, he already served 369 days, and was discharged from the Marines, according to 10News.com.

His family said he should never have been allowed to join the Marines to begin with because of his autism. They stated his recruiter found Fry at a group home for the mentally disabled and signed him up despite opposition from Fry's grandmother (also his guardian), according to ABC News.

While the recruitment incident was an outrage IMO and he should never have been allowed to join the Marines, I hardly think all the mentally disabled people out there are watching child porn. He should probably be sentenced to therapy above anything else and sent to a highly security home for sex offenders. Mentally ill or not, the guy is a menace and the Marines are supposed to be some of the toughest guys in the military, why on earth are they recruiting disabled people?
