Help Get Joe Donovan Out of Jail This Saturday in Cambridge
As many of you know, one of the more heartbreaking stories that the Phoenix ran this past year was about East Cambridge native Joe Donovan, who is serving life without parole for a crime that he did not commit. In fact - not only did he not commit the murder for which he was charged, but he was railroaded by the Middlesex District Attorney's office, which refuses to account for its actions.
Still, despite our story and Brad Puffer's excellent NECN documentary on the subject that aired this past May, Joe remains unders the custody of the Massachusetts Department of Correction. So this Saturday (June 12), his friends, family, and advocates from the East Cambridge community and beyond are throwing a "Pardon Joe Donovan Giveaway" at Kennedy Park to raise awareness.
I addition to the free stickers, buttons, and t-shirts - which have a pretty darn cool logo, if I do say so myself - attendees will be given self-addressed-stamped-envelopes in which they can send letters to Governor Deval Patrick asking for a pardon. If you can't make it, you can also participate HERE.
