Ashland terror suspect drummed in Mass. bands the Silk Road and Goosepimp Orchestra

REZWAN FERDAUS, the 26-year-old Ashland man arrested yesterday in a terrorist plot to fly explosives into the Pentagon and Capitol building, was also a drummer in various Bay State funk and jam bands in the mid-2000s, laying down the beat for songs like "No Pilot" and "Gaza Dozer."

Pictured above, Ferdaus was drummer for THE SILK ROAD, a Roxbury and Allston-based alt-rock jam band quartet that described their sound on their MySpace page as "a six-pack of Pabst and a mechanical bull." Four songs -- including "No Pilot" and "Gaza Dozer" were posted in January 2007, but the page was last activated May 2008. Today's play count for each track is nearing 100, no doubt a result of Ferdaus' involvement with the group. Both photos in this post were taken from the band's now dormant MySpace.

In addition to the Silk Road, Ferdaus has also been linked to eight-piece psychedelic funk band GOOSEPIMP ORCHESTRA, though he is not listed on the band's website as a member or former contributor. A report on MyFoxBoston cited Ferdaus as the drummer of Goosepimp, but a commenter identified as Jeff Magro said Ferdaus left the band at least five years ago. Hear Now Live, a local booking and promotion company, posted "you guys are the bomb :)" on Goosepimp Orchestra's Facebook page.

On Monday, Goosepimp Orchestra begin a weekly October residency at Wonderbar in Allston.
