Review: Inside Job

The feel-bad movie of the year.

Waiting for Repo Man: The man behind Inside Job shows us just how low Wall Street has sunk. By Chris Faraone.
Although Inside Job is destined for Academy acclaim, it seems unlikely that anyone will actually enjoy Charles Ferguson's new documentary. Regardless of your spot in the food chain, it's the feel-bad film of the year. In this comprehensive account of how a few whiteboys looted planet Earth and stole away in custom jets, Ferguson attaches names and faces to the global economic meltdown — and even puts the screws to some scumbags who did the screwing. As a bonus for folks who will claim they already understand what happened, he also digs deep into America's toxic economic climate, showing how Harvard and other top business schools are compromised by foolhardy free-market zealots. Inside Job won't incite thousands of righteous martyrs to march into downtown Manhattan armed with clubs and bats — but it should.

There's this funny idea in the music industry — or at least in the hip-hop slice of that glorious enterprise — that it's uncool to release an album in January, February, or March. Artists and label dicks just love talking about how they're "waiting for the second quarter to drop."
