Among Pride Weekend's magic was a simply delicious moment at the Dyke March After-Party, when Vanessa Torres and the "Lady GayGays" did a cover of GaGa's "Bad Romance," with Torres on guitar, a cello, a violin, and a trombone. It was shockingly haunting. For all its remixing, GaGa's song manages to lend itself to many variations.

Speaking of variations, did you know we have some pretty musically talented (oh, and incredibly messed up) Drag Kings right here in Portland? At the Kings of the Hill "Rainbow Fried Circus," we were treated to ... wait for it ... another cover of "Bad Romance," this time called "Sexin' Trance." The premise: one of our beloved Snack Cakes has kicked the bucket by choking on a fried-chicken leg, and must be resurrected via a special séance that involves some musical necrophilia. (Got that? Sure you did.)

Dirty, raunchy, and hysterical, "Sexin' Trance" would have stolen the show for live music for me — if not for the piece that preceded it, a lovely Snack Cakes rendition of GaGa's "Telephone" proclaiming, essentially, that our Snack Cake goddesses can't be bothered to answer their phones while baking.

What can I say? "Sexin' Trance" will be stuck in my head forever now — for better or for worse.
