ASA BREBNER’s weekend-long Abbey Lounge residency, in celebration of his new live album Abbey Lode (Hi-N-Dry), drew high-profile friends like PETER WOLF and rock historian PETER GURALNICK. But Asa’s already looking ahead to a plethora of other projects, including a show April 29 with the TWINEMEN at Hi-N-Dry studio to celebrate an exhibition of his line drawings. He’s also been playing bass with and producing an album by the new folk-rock group ANGELINE, who include singers EMILY GROGAN and LAURA VIENS. “They’re kind of spooky folk music,” Brebner says, “like Pentangle meets the Velvet Underground.” He particularly raves about “Powdered Pearls,” the title of which refers to the belief during the Middle Ages that powdered pearls could cure the plague. Angeline play June 23 at the Lizard Lounge with ANDREA GILLIS and ROBIN LANE. Meanwhile, Brebner’s group the FAMILY JEWELS will record an album of doo-wop and R&B chestnuts at Hi-N-Dry this summer. . . . Indie rockers the VITAL MIGHT are in the studio working on their debut album, which is due in mid to late summer, and you can keep tabs on the process via their video blog at myspace.com/thevitalmight. They’re recording at a private school in Tilton, New Hampshire, and at practice spaces in Brighton and Allston. You can get a sneak peek at the new material, including a “garagy” cover of a-ha’s “Take on Me,” April 28 at Bill’s Bar with HOORAY FOR EARTH and LOUD CLAPPERS.
