From Galvanize to Skid Row!
By PROVIDENCE PHOENIX MUSIC STAFF  |  July 3, 2012

This typically-quiet stretch of summer on the live circuit still boasts some nice highlights for the upcoming week. Last-minute plans for THURSDAY (the 5th) includes DJ SAVE 1 spinning "exquisite 45s of soul, funk, and Latin music" at the Burnside Park Garden Music Series in Kennedy Plaza; Then head to Fête for a quality $3 triple-dip featuring 75orLess Records reps GALVANIZE, SIX STAR GENERAL, and THE SENTIMENTAL FAVORITES (dial 401.383.1112). Speaking of 75orLess, catch SUICIDE BILL and COMA COMA (back-to-back champs as Best Local Act in our music poll!) open for MICAH SCHNABEL (of Two Cow Garage) at the PVD Social Club on FRIDAY (the 6th) with an early 7 pm start. Stop by Empire Street for the AS220 CRISS CROSS ORCHESTRA, with Obuamah Laud Addy and friends delivering the poly-rhythmic, international flavor ($6, 401.831.9327). Friday night rolls on with DJ PETE LIMA working the turntables at Local 121 (401.274.2121), locals MOGA and LAST GOOD TOOTH opening for singer-songwriter Willy Mason at the Met ($8, 401.729.1005), and MIKE G. & ASSOCIATES play the Greenwich Hotel in E.G. (21+, no cover, 401.884.4200). And — on the retro tip — head north to Showcase Live in Foxboro (508.543.5120) for HOWARD JONES, and best believe the boondocks will be rockin' when SKID ROW (yup, that Skid Row) pulls into the Rock Junction in West Greenwich on Friday; 21+ and tix are $35, call 401.385.3036 for the full scoop. Fête continues to deliver top-shelf hip-hop, and on SATURDAY (the 7th) veteran Rhody wordsmith CHACHI CARVALHO teams with the ELEVENTH ISLAND BAND for a Cape Verdean Independence celebration, along with a slew of special guests and spoken word artists; all-ages and $10 at the door. Get there. An interesting mix for RISA's next go-round at AS220 on SUNDAY (the 8th) includes THE DOWN AND OUTS, OUTLOOK NOT GOOD, THIS IS A MOVEMENT (tour kick-off), and more. The Whiskey Republic continues its Unplugged series on TUESDAY (the 10th) with no cover, while the Spot Underground returns from its annual Independence week vakay with PSYCHEDELIC CLOWN CAR and friends hosting the weekly Creation Tuesday jam session (401.383.7133).
