Mieka Pauley

Out of Car Wrecks and Hurricanes | Self-Released
By SUE BELL  |  June 14, 2006

Mieka Pauley
For her latest release, local singer-songwriter Mieka Pauley collects five of her best songs on an EP produced by pop maestro John Alagia (Dave Matthews/Jason Mraz). Her gritty acoustics have been given an electric glow that leaves the tunes tastefully shinier without going overboard. “The Way It Is” maintains her soulful, simplistic style; self-depreciating lyrics like “I’ll pick you up/When you don’t fall/And I’ll come running/When you don’t call” are charming, not mushy. “Faster” embodies the EP’s theme — finding solace in the dark, but not necessarily the dreary. Pauley’s darkness is a peaceful solitude, which she finds in both the defiant “Stronger” and the slippery grasp of “Draped in Blue.”
