• The fantasy of TEENARENA RECORDS has become a beautiful reality. The label released BRENDA's second record Fix Your Eyes on LP and cassette last week, joining the ranks with METAL FEATHERS' divisive Handful of Fog, and a proper vinyl version of FOAM CASTLES' Bonanza, released digitally last year. All three garnered favorable reviews in these pages (respectively: last week, February 22, and May 18, 2012), but if you need further convincing, watch a new 40-minute YouTube video of "Spring Joint" (filmed by one-man content hub MIKE CUNNANE) from a party at label HQ in Rochester, New Hampshire, last week, featuring mini-sets by Metal Feathers and Foam Castles among fellow New England weirdos Headband, the Fat Creeps, Electric Homework, the MiGs, and more. The live show'll take a web search, but hit up teenarenarecords.com for one of the best vinyl labels in the region.
• In new music videos by locals on the fringes of the mainstream, Jason Bosch of Red Stallion Media imagines the pop trio OTHER BONES' song "The River" as a dark action thriller, while pop duo WORRIED WELL put a campy Maine sheen on their lurchingly post-punk track "Sickly Honest" (directed by Aaron Bouchard), which foreshadows the band's record Luck coming out May 7.
• In case you're having a tough time getting your fill of local music coverage, another voice has joined the fray. Local film production company TASTY DUDE FILMS started interviewing musicians and filming live sets for a program they're calling Portland Music TV, up on local website and video complex THE ENTERTAINMENT EXPERIMENT. • Another star was plotted on the celestial tour that is rock band HERBCRAFT. The group landed a spot this month on a new compilation of new breed jams issued by the famed California imprint of underground culture Arthur Magazine, a digital mixtape called "Thoughtless Grin" which contains the marginally more familiar names of Devendra Banhart, MV & EE, and Daniel Bachman, among others. Herbcraft's contribution is the rousing nine-minute swirler "Full Circle (Eternally)," the closer to their new LP Astral Body Electric on Woodsist.
