The Zutons’ second outing features more straightforward rock than their Talking-Heads-meet-Madness debut, 2004’s
Who Killed the Zutons
, but where’s the fun in that? Well, there is some. With the twangy ballad “Somebody’s Watching over Me” and swaggering anthems like “Valerie” and “Tired of Hanging Around,” these sons (and one daughter) of Liverpool were assured of being

darlings for at least a week or two. Singer Dave McCabe’s adopts a delivery that’s uncannily Bono and at times oddly Chris Cornell. But it’s their honest simplicity that offers a refreshing contrast to the irony of neo-new-wave disco retreads that are all the rage in the UK. “Tired of Hanging Around” sounds like a song the Strokes should have written. The Big Hurt: Here come the summer fests
Look alive, alt-metal fans. Time to polish the wallet chain, spray some Febreze on the ol’ cargo shorts, and dye your goatee purple for maximum extremeness: festival season is nearly upon us!

First came the homemade movie posters, then the T-shirts, the fan fiction, and the board game.

The imagination knows its own way, but it sometimes needs marching orders.
Y'all come back now . . .

Revolution rock
It’s an incongruous sight at first: Tom Morello strumming an acoustic guitar emblazoned with the words “Whatever It Takes.”

The Big Hurt: Rotten butter
John Lydon spreads it on thick. Plus, intrusive devices and CGI pissoirs
Freaks, Geeks, and Faux Bono
As Bay Staters, we recognize that our European ancestors sure knew how to roll: scarlet letters, sticks up asses, if-she-drowns-she's-not-a-witch-if-she-floats-she's-a-witch-so-let's-kill-her legal applications.
Party people
Though the crowd skewed more preppie and hippie than rudie, they knew their shit, screaming the words to "Reggae Got Soul" and "Monkey Man."
Live Earth 2007
So you’re headed to a Live Earth gig somewhere, whether outside New York City or in a remote outpost in Antarctica.
