THE KILLING MOON (yes, formerly ANIMAL SUIT DRIVE-BY, by gosh) have released a new EP with FEARLESS RECORDS, A Message Through Your Teeth, as of last Tuesday. It’s pretty hot, as are the Killing Moon and their label. The PLAIN WHITE T’S and ROCK KILLS KID? Yep, labelmates. TKM support their new release with a tour of the Midwest that kicked off February 27 at the Station and includes dates in Bound Brook, New Jersey; North Fort Myers, Florida (to include a Sox spring training game, we’re sure); and Kearney, Nebraska, among a number of others.
It might not be news to everyone, but here’s the final word that GOAT'S HEAD SOUP/ACOUSTIC COFFEE is officially closed for good. We here at “Sibilance” would like to say that we weren’t always totally down with the we-don’t-pay-people-to-play-but-we-don’t-charge-either philosophy, but there’s no denying that a whole slew of musicians — DEAD END ARMORY, MOSS MOUNTAIN PROJECT, KATRINA ABRAMO, STEVEN WILLIAMS, and others — definitely used the place as an incubator, and for that it was utterly valuable. Maybe the vibe won’t die, though, as the soon-to-open NORTHSTAR CAFE, over at the base of Munjoy Hill, has purchased much of the Acoustic furniture and kitchen equipment, and maybe it will carry some kind of Goat's Head dust (ewww). Also, Steven Williams reports folks are restarting the OPEN MIC AT BLUE on the second and fourth Tuesdays in March, “in hopes that we’re able to continue that great sort of ‘proving ground’ atmosphere.” Good luck to them.
Tangentially, Williams also says CAT & MOUSE RECORDS is getting back in the act, with another artist compilation in the works. There should be around 14 artists featured on a disc released by the end of March.
J. BIDDY has a release show date for Restless, though it’s been out for a while. He’ll play April 4 at Geno’s. Cool beans.
DILLY DILLY (a/k/a Erin Davidson, sometimes of CERBERUS SHOAL) has been added to SAGE FRANCIS’s Human the Death Dance Tour (that’s not a typo), along with BUCK 65, ALIAS, and BUDDY WAKEFIELD. So, that would be a ukulele-playing folk singer backing a bunch of rappers. Also, Dilly’ll be playing in Sage’s live band, along with TOM INHALER on guitar and Alias on synths and MPC player. The tour kicks off in late May and runs through July, hitting 40 spots along the way. If you can’t wait that long, see Dilly and SONTIAGO opening for KID KOALA at SPACE April 21.
