More than a year in with drummer JASON STEWART, SIDECAR RADIO are ready to release new music, an EP that will drop the second week of April with a show at the Big Easy. They haven’t figured out what to call the disc yet, but look for news on that when they drop a single to WCYY in the near future.
The man who made gas-mask chic the rage of Portland shows his arty side this week, as part of the IMPROVISED STRINGQUARTET, which will accompany the silent film Metropolis as part of ONE LONGFELLOW SQUARE’s ongoing silent-film series, February 27 and 28. AL GIUSTO (MEANTONE) will play resonator guitar, along with YASMINE CRAIG on violin, CATHERINE STAMBACH on upright bass, and NATHAN KOLOSKO (whom you may know for his video-sound collaborations with LING-WEN TSAI) on classical guitar.
Jazz-band leader CHARLES BROWN checked in to say local jazz chorus !ZING would be releasing a new disc at the PMA Jazz Brunch, March 2.
FREED fans who are still stinging from the ripping final show in December can look forward to a new team-up between Freed-men MATT COSBY and NICK GOODALE and PETER DONOVAN, a friend they met during their LA days. The band are called ALL THE REAL GIRLS, and they’re already in the studio finishing up a disc they’re calling Love and Fame. Look for cameos from ZACH JONES (AS FAST AS) and ROY DAVIS (Nick’s brother, actually), and listen for a sound Cosby says hits on the Boss, Beach Boys, Weezer, and the Hold Steady. Sounds good to us.
If you’re jonesing for some new SARA COX, check out her Valentine’s Day present to the world, “White Dress and All,” released on her MySpace page. God it’s pretty, full of a swinging sing-song and delicate falsetto.
