Portland scene report: October 3, 2008

Sibilance starts now
By PORTLAND PHOENIX MUSIC STAFF  |  October 2, 2008

LOVERLESS are pushing the envelope with their new record. Nothing Under the Sun will be initially released at an October 10 show at the Big Easy, where attendees will receive cards with instructions on downloading the record, which can only be listened to initially as two extended tracks, an A side and a B side. Telling the story of a man from Virginia who suffered seven separate lightning strikes over the course of his life, the songs will eventually be released in individual form online, and then an LP of the album will be released in December. Listen for 20-gauge shotguns used as instruments.

THE HORROR’s Rick “RICKY BOY FLOYD” Dalton is launching a new career as a stand-up comedian.

Be on the lookout for a team-up between ALIAS GRACE’s RICHARD FORTIN and COSADES’s KYLE GERVAIS. If it gets going, that could be damned interesting.

DAVE ROWE has resurrected his father Tom’s old recording equipment and turned it into DAVE’S GARAGE, a new recording studio that’s open for business. Rowe’s been learning in the studio since he was bouncing on dad’s knee and he’s got lots of great musician buddies. Find him on the ’net at www.daverowemusic.com.
