• We're not sure if anyone got a chance to catch OLAS at the Pepper Club last week, but do yourself a favor and get down to the Hogfarm Studios Annex in Biddeford to see them on December 18. Featuring FIRE ON FIRE's CHRISS SUTHERLAND and TOM KOVACEVIC, along with GRUPO ESPERANZA's DYLAN BLANCHARD and CONIFER's LEIF SHERMAN CURTIS, plus dancers MOLLY ANGIE and ANNA TRUNZO, they do worldly music like you just haven't seen before around here, with Arabic, African, Cuban, and many other influences all tied up in a wholly organic mix. Very cool.
• The new ROY DAVIS record is set for January 23 release at SPACE Gallery. Should be a doozy.
• Big plans from ETERNAL OTTER RECORDS. January 29 will see a label showcase for the release of a series of vinyl singles "collected around the idea of bands that have broken up, lost a member, or reformed under a new line-up." Thus, there will be recordings from CERBERUS SHOAL (on hiatus, we think), LADY LAMB THE BEEKEEPER paired with former bandmate TJ METCALFE, and a Portsmouth group called BLAQUE BOOSE (we know nothing about them, sorry). Also let it be known that DOMINIC LAVOIE will take up BUILDING OF SONG residency in January.
• Did anyone see RAY LAMONTAGNE play the tree-lighting ceremony at the WHITE HOUSE? Surreal.

In view of its credentials, Armored should be a lay-up.
- Review: Irene in Time
Luckless in love, Irene (Tanna Frederick) wants to "find a guy like my daddy." Her father, she says (over and over and over), "was really magical." Truth be told, her absent dad doesn't seem like that great a guy.
- Review: The Slammin' Salmon
Here's how the shit version of Waiting likely came to be: the Broken Lizard boys (David Heffernan directs) thought the concept of a boxing-champ-turned-Miami-restaurateur was funny, and they wrote and shot a major motion picture without bothering to design a plot.
- Review: Sherlock Holmes
In its own way an ideal holiday blockbuster for the moderately educated, the new light-footed overhaul of Sherlock Holmes is three parts self-satisfied mixer to one part hard storytelling, and if anything, the film's popular trailers should have deterred you from expecting strong drink.

Christopher Isherwood published his novel about a middle-aged homosexual grieving for a lost lover, the frank depiction of gay desire scandalized some readers.

Indie comedy has it tough in the marketplace, so though it's no fun to pan the first feature by the Derrick Comedy troupe, neither was it fun to watch Mystery Team .

This distressing documentary explores a netherworld of individuals who have come to Beijing from all over China hoping that their grievances against their local governments will be heard.
