On THURSDAY (the 4th) catch THE GOODS at Nick-a-Nee's in the Jewelry District, 21+ and never a cover, call 401.861.7290. Another solid weekend at the 201 kicks off with a special Thursday night bill with ARCING (featuring ex-Sweetthieves bassist Hilary Jones) opening for TINSEL TEETH and CHINESE STARS, and only $6 at the door. Head back there for another beast of a local show on FRIDAY (the 5th) featuring new speed-punks LIFERS with SHE RIDES, HOLLOWS, and WHITE LOAD opening. Nasty. Call 401.454.4581 for info on both shows. DAN LILLEY & LOVETRAIN sling free of charge at the Greenwich Hotel (401.884.4200.) and ska vets THE AGENTS revisit the Ocean Mist (401.782.3740). Jerky's Bar links up some local acts the MIDNIGHT CREEPS with SPONGE (18+) on Thursday, and THE COMING WEAK warm it up for SAOSIN (all ages) on Friday; call 401.621.2244 for details on both. On SATURDAY (the 6th), indie kids BIG TALL BUILDINGS (guitarist Jared Mann reports an EP of new material is in the works) join SKINNY MILLIONAIRES at AS220 (401.831.9327), while surf-rock thrashers CLIFFS & BANGERS share a bill with MAMA F at the Common Pub (401.253.9801). And a shout for YOUNG NEAL & THE VIPERS, doing their thing at Chan's (401.765.1900). Show of the weekend goes to the 201, delivering a nice four-pack headlined by SIX STAR GENERAL, with THE JESSE MINUTE, GIRL HAGGARD, and Eric Baylies' new project BAD MOTHERFUCKER (attention fans of Melvins and the Jesus Lizard), a good reason to get downtown early and only $5 at the door. Looking ahead to WEDNESDAY (the 10th), WHITE MICE kick off a nationwide tour at AS220 with STRESS APE and FUZZ ORCHESTRA. White Mice, Tinsel Teeth, and Chinese Stars are just a few of the local acts headed down to Austin, TX in a few weeks for annual music fest South By Southwest. Check sxsw.com for more enticement.
