Top Press Herald, Sentinel, Journal execs to leave
If and when the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram is ever actually sold to Richard Connor, the editors and publishers of the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram, Morning Sentinel, and Kennebec Journal will lose their jobs immediately, the PPH reported yesterday afternoon.
Among the 22 non-union employees told their jobs will not survive the sale are:
-Rob Bickler, president and CEO of the Press Herald/Telegram
-Jeannine Guttman, editor and veep of the Press Herald/Telegram
-John Christie, publisher of the KJ and the Sentinel
-Eric Conrad, executive editor of the KJ and the Sentinel.
Of course, none of this is a surprise - Connor has long said he wants to act as the papers' publisher and editor, and is expected to be deeply involved in the restructuring and daily operations of the company.
It does leave the unionized workers - who are already in a perilous position - with even less leadership than they have had. Will that be a bad thing? Time will tell.
